As part of the Talpods-Jusoor Tech Talent Pipeline initiative, we highlight engineers who turn challenges into opportunities. Today, we feature a remarkable story of resilience, creativity, and passion from a Syrian engineer who, despite facing significant hardships, has forged a path to success in the tech world.

Talpods: Can you tell us a bit about your background and what initially sparked your interest in engineering?

Abdel: I’m originally from Syria and moved to Lebanon in 2013. One of the first challenges I faced was the struggle to get accepted into schools. After several attempts, I decided to move back and forth between Lebanon and Syria to continue my education, which meant being separated from my family for two or three years. My passion for computer science began early when I watched my cousin, a skilled coder, writing code with such enthusiasm. This inspired me to start learning programming on YouTube. Eventually, I enrolled in a top-ranked university, consistently ranking among the top 10 students. Alongside my studies, I worked with foreign companies to develop my technical skills and founded the Creative Youth organization, helping students connect with the job market early. This journey fueled my passion and motivated me to join Talpods to gain a broader vision.

Talpods: What challenges have you faced in your career so far, and how have you overcome them?

Abdel: Balancing education and professional growth has been my biggest challenge. While pursuing my degree, I worked with foreign companies and founded the Creative Youth organization, which required significant time and effort. Despite the pressure, my passion for technology and desire to make a difference pushed me through. I learned to manage my time effectively and stay focused on my goals. This experience reinforced my belief that passion turns vision into action, and that perseverance is key to overcoming any challenge.

Talpods: How has your experience with Talpods impacted your professional growth?

Abdel: My time at Talpods was transformative. I met incredible colleagues who taught me to think outside the box, and mentors like Lijeesh, who shared invaluable insights. Their dedication and experience allowed me to gain a comprehensive engineering vision in a short time. I learned the importance of time management, team leadership, and exploring new technologies. This experience inspired me to finally start working on a project I had envisioned for two years. Talpods gave me the skills and confidence to turn my ideas into reality, reinforcing my belief in continuous learning and the power of collaboration.

Talpods: Who or what inspires you in your journey, and what are your future aspirations in the field of engineering?

Abdel: I am inspired by people like Lijeesh, who excel in their field and generously share their knowledge. His ability to find multiple solutions to problems has deeply influenced my approach. My future aspirations involve blending artificial intelligence with everyday applications to create solutions that help people. I’m currently working on an AI-powered application that I believe will make a meaningful impact. I hold the belief that “Passion turns vision into action; winners create opportunities rather than waiting for them,” and I aim to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Talpods: What advice would you give to others who are considering joining the bootcamp?

Abdel: Stay passionate and keep your goals in sight. The bootcamp is intense, especially in the first week when you’ll be learning for 10 to 12 hours a day. But if you remain motivated and think creatively, everything becomes manageable. The bootcamp transforms your mindset from being a developer to an engineer, equipping you with the tools to tackle real-world problems. Embrace the challenges, fuel your passion, and set clear goals. Remember, if someone else has succeeded, you can too—and if no one has done it before, you can be the first.
